Welcome to the Pleasure Zone!

Sitting in a cafe (now a memory), Matthew from Cornwall Pride and I brainstormed ways to elevate Pride experiences, daring to tease attendees with the promise of something intriguing. As we pondered, one truth became clear: pleasure and safety are universal rights. And what's more fundamental to pleasure and safety than consent?

Yet, as we explored, it struck us how rarely consent is discussed post-adolescence, especially in the context of better sex. So, we birthed The Pleasure Zone!

Our debut event in Newquay amidst torrential rain (think building an Ark and calling yourself Noah) was a revelation. Despite the deluge, a diverse array of 45 individuals sought us out in just 5 hours, from an 18-year-old gender-fluid asexual to an HIV+ gay man who lived through the '80s AIDS crisis in London. The demand was overwhelming and exhilarating. I realised we had outgrown the 3x3m marquee!

With each encounter, I witnessed the hunger for sex-positive dialogue on queerness and gender identity. And as the rain poured relentlessly, The Pleasure Zone stood firm, a beacon of inclusivity and support amid the storm!

But it was clear: we needed more space. So, armed with lessons learned, we expanded and headed to Truro, doubling our capacity. And once again, I was inundated, speaking to 90 people in just 5 hours! The day was long, but the joy of connection made every minute worthwhile…

The only regret? Turning away two-thirds of eager attendees due to limited space. But as we reflect on our journey, one thing is certain: The Pleasure Zone is here to stay, embracing diversity, fostering dialogue, and celebrating the inherent right to pleasure for all.

As we sit get ready for Falmouth Pride 2024 with a new revamp of the space I wonder who will work through the Pleasure Zone ‘door’ to see me!

We offer the Pleasure Zone at other Pride events, so if you have any questions or would like to book, get in touch.
